The Preston Blackmon Family Success Center at Deliverance Word of Faith promotes family literacy, citizenship and basic skills to children and adults who are economically disadvantaged or referred by the Department of Social Services (DSS). They focus on financial literacy, ReadON!, math instruction, GED/Pre-GED, and parenting classes.
The mission at the Preston Blackmon Family Success Center is to provide educational and multi-cultural programs that enable families to become successful thereby producing safe and progressive communities.
Southside Adult Family Literacy Project
The Literacy Project uses specific strategies to help adults improve their reading, math & workplace literacy skills. First they help clients identify their educational and career goals, then those clients are taught techniques that help change negative workplace behaviors into positive performance. Finally, parents are given strategies to help them become partners in their children’s education.
The Literacy Project uses Basic Skills, Read –On, as well as additional web based GED strategies. They provide work place experience and work place literacy skills for clients who are referred by the Department of Social Services and other agencies. An after school tutorial for children in grades K- 6 is provided Monday –Thursday from 3:00 -4:30 pm. The Literacy Project also provides Citizenship, Community, Cultural Awareness, and Cultural Participation programs.
Preston Blackmon Family Success Center
The Center provides Parenting and Anger Management Classes to clients who are referred by DSS, the Parole Board, or the Fatherhood Project.
Some of the objectives of these classes are to teach positive communication skills, self esteem, and behavior. The family sets goals together and defines unique values for their family.
